Jeremy Hoff is the Owner and Managing Attorney of HOFF& COMPANY LTD ATTORNEYS. Jeremy represents individuals, families, businesses, municipalities, and other organizations on a variety of legal matters including residential and commercial real estate transactions, land use, permitting, and construction, corporate and small business law, commercial transactions, energy and utility regulation, and general counsel/home office services.
Jeremy represents real estate clients on a broad range of residential and commercial transactions, financing, subdivision, state and local permitting, development, construction, contract administration, land conservation, condominium formation and serving as counsel to homeowner associations, tax appeals, landlord/tenant disputes, foreclosures, and the purchase of distressed properties. Attorney Hoff has closed hundreds of real estate transactions, including single family residences, complex commercial properties, and numerous multi-hundred and multi-thousand-acre land transfers. He regularly advises clients on issues relating to the Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act (FIRPTA) and Vermont’s Use Value Appraisal (Current Use) Program. Jeremy has handled many transactions at and maintains familiarity with the real estate aspects of northern-Vermont’s resort and condominium communities including Trapp Family Lodge, Stowe Mountain Lodge, Smuggler’s Notch, Bolton Valley Resort, TopNotch Resort, Mountainside Resort at Stowe, Stonybrook, the Covered Bridge Condominiums, Mt. Mansfield Townhouses, the Village Green at Stowe, and others.
Jeremy has significant experience providing corporate, general counsel, and transactional services to small businesses, corporations, and limited liability companies. He assists clients with corporate formation and governance, provides Annual Report and Registered Agent services, and has counselled corporate clients on acquisitions, sales, mergers, and debt and equity transactions. Jeremy has provided representation to restaurants, hotels and inns, night clubs, farms, retail establishments, breweries, home builders, contractors and developers, manufacturing and food production businesses, doctor and dentist practices, car dealerships, ski resorts, and a cable television and internet provider.
Jeremy also has many years of experience assisting energy and utility clients on general operational matters and regulatory affairs, including resource planning, tariff design, ratemaking and rate changes, financing and bonding, site acquisition and permitting for renewable energy generation facilities, and contract formation and obtaining regulatory approvals for power supply contracts. Jeremy has appeared in dozens of proceedings before the Vermont Public Utility Commission on a variety of matters with state-wide policy implications.
Jeremy is admitted to practice in the state courts of Vermont and Iowa, as well as the United States District Court and United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Vermont. He is a graduate of the University of Vermont (B.A. 1999) and Vermont Law School, having received a Master of Studies in Environmental Law (M.S.E.L.) in 2004 and J.D. in 2007.
Prior to entering private practice, Jeremy served as Law Clerk to the Legislative Council of the Vermont Legislature, performing legislative drafting and research and providing legal counsel to state legislators in the areas of agriculture, commerce, economic development, and environmental regulation. Between college and law school Jeremy held various positions in sales and marketing for Raytheon Company and the Harpoon Brewery.
Jeremy is a member of the Board of Directors of the Richmond Land Trust, where he serves on the Acquisition Committee and the Stewardship Committee, overseeing the Land Trust’s property and easement holdings. He has served as RLT’s Board Chair since 2018. Jeremy is also a former Board Member of the Lamoille County Chapter of Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity, where he served on the Site Selection Committee and served two years as Board Chair. Jeremy also formerly served as a member of the City of Montpelier’s Development Review Board and Business Loan Fund Committee.
Jeremy lives in Richmond with his wife and two sons. He is an avid skier and longtime season-passholder at Bolton Valley Resort and Stowe Mountain Resort.
